Fall 2026 leaf and yard waste rules for cities outside Kalamazoo County. For Kalamazoo, Portage and every Kalamazoo County township, use our Trash and recycling page.
Battle Creek (Calhoun County)
- Curbside yard waste, including leaves, is picked up weekly on your regular trash day. 2026 season: Monday, April 6 to Friday, December 4.
- Put it out by 6 a.m. Use two-ply Kraft paper yard waste bags, a marked personal container up to 32 gallons, or a city-approved 96-gallon yard waste cart.
- Pumpkins are accepted in October and November.
St. Joseph (Berrien County)
- Curbside leaf pickup in spring and fall. The city calendar lists citywide leaf collection days in October and November 2026, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Rake leaves into the street gutter, away from drain tops. No bags, branches, grass, rocks or other debris in the pile.
- On Niles Avenue, Main Street and Lakeshore Drive, bag leaves in paper yard waste bags and call Public Works at 269-983-6341 for a bagged pickup during collection dates.
Niles (Berrien County)
- Leaf collection starts about the third or fourth Monday of October, one ward at a time, Monday to Saturday. The goal is to finish before December 15.
- Rake leaves out before the vacuum crew arrives. Leaves mixed with brush, limbs, trash or ashes are not picked up.
- Move cars off the street when crews are on your block.
- There is no spring leaf program unless Public Works announces one.
South Haven (Van Buren County)
- Fall leaf pickup started October 19, 2026. City staff collect leaves daily through December 11, weather permitting.
Three Rivers (St. Joseph County)
- Leaves may go in the street starting Monday, October 26, 2026, and pickup runs through mid-December. Do not put leaves out before October 24.
- Put leaves in the street, not on the terrace between the sidewalk and curb. Leaves out early can be fined.
- Final leaf pickup by district: Third District by the morning of December 7, First District December 9, Fourth District December 11, Second District December 14.
- Brush pickup happened once, October 19 to 22, by district. Do not mix brush and leaves.
